Gut Health Habits of The UK
Yakult Survey Reveals UK’s Regional Gut Health Habits
Yakult, in collaboration with OnePoll, conducted a survey of 2,000 people to uncover regional differences in gut health habits across the UK.
Key findings:
- Yorkshire emerged as having the worst habits, consuming the least fruit, vegetables, nuts, water, and fermented foods
- In contract, Scots and Londoners came closest to achieving five-a-day, with Londoners also leading in the consumption of fermented foods and hydration, averaging five glasses of water daily.
- A fifth of Welsh respondents reported bloating a few times weekly, while 28% of West Midlands residents said they never experience it
- North East residents were identified as the gassiest, with 26% experiencing daily discomfort, compared to just 12% in Scotland
- Scots also reported the most inconsistent bowel habits, with 36% acknowledging irregularity.
- On average, Brits consume four portions of fruit and vegetables daily, with 44% never eating fermented foods
- Only 35% of Brits polled include nuts in their diet, and 28% feel they lack sufficient fibre
- Hydration is another concern, as 31 % of Brits polled drink less than the recommended six to eight glasses daily
- Exercise also plays a role in gut health, but 37% admit failing to meet the recommended 30 minutes of daily activity
